The
Milford Police Department's Exploring Law Enforcement Post
29 competed in the 8th Annual New Hampshire Law Enforcement
Explorers Challenge Weekend. The competition was held at
the Training site in Gilmanton Ironworks, NH. There were
a total of 70 Explorers from across New Hampshire and Massachusetts
who participated.
Milford Post 29 competed in seven different
events ranging from
Marksmanship,
Armored Personnel Carrier Driving, to completing a Written
Police Entrance Examination. The Milford Explorers were the
only team representing Massachusetts at the event.
The Milford Team was able to win the
First Place Trophy in the overall competition. This is the
first time in the competitions history that a non-New Hampshire
team has won the top prize. Finishing behind Milford were
in second place Portsmouth, NH, and in third place Derry
NH. This is the second, First Place finishing in a major
competition, in the post's 5-year history.
The
Post also finished fourth in the Naitona for White Collar
Crime Investigation during the 1998 competition in Washington,
D.C.
The Milford Team was prepared for this
competition by their advisors Milford Officers John Tiernan
and Carlos A. Sousa. The Milford Explorers were presented
with the funds for the competition by Milford Police Union
President Officer Ed Pomponio, Vice-President Officer Alan
Bacchiocchi and Treasuror Russell Poissant.
