MPD K-9 UNIT RESCUES MISSING CHILD FROM WATER

MILFORD- On Monday April 28th, 2025, at approximately 3:58PM, the Milford Public Safety Communications Center received a 911 call from a parent reporting her 8-year-old, non-verbal, autistic son had escaped their home through a first-floor window and was nowhere to be found on the property.

As patrol units scoured the area searching for the young child, Milford Police K-9 Officer Brian Sanchioni and K-9 Titan began a track of the area.  Titan quickly began showing a heightened interest in a long stream of water across the street from the caller’s residence.

“We’re grateful for a quick and positive outcome.  This speaks to the invaluable nature of resources like the K-9 unit.  With more, we’re able to do more.  My hats off to K-9 Officer Sanchioni, K-9 Titan and all the other units that responded to help this family in their dire hour.”  - Chief of Police Robert Tusino

Milford Police Department and DEA to hold Prescription Drug Take Back Day Saturday, April 26, 2025 at the Milford Senior Center

Milford, MA- The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will once again conduct one of its most popular community programs:  National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 10:00am – 1230pm.  The public can dispose of their unwanted prescription medications at the Milford Senior Center located at 60 North Bow St., with the assistance of the Milford Police Department.  The collection site will be located outside the front entrance to the Milford Senior Center.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and health issue.  Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse.  Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.  DEA launched its prescription drug take back program when both the Environmental Protection Agency and the Food and Drug Administration advised the public that flushing these drugs down the toilet or throwing them in the trash posed potential safety and health hazards.

Last October, during Take Back Day, the DEA New England Field Division participated in the event.  There was a total of 4,425 law enforcement agencies that participated, over the course of four hours, 629,953 lbs. (314 tons) of expired, unused, unwanted prescription drugs were collected at 4,644 collection sites throughout the country. In Massachusetts, 172 law enforcement agencies participated collecting a total of 25,897 lbs. of unwanted and unused prescription drugs.

Please help us to keep our community safe from this dangerous hazard.
