IPHONE CRASH ALERT LEADS TO OUI ARREST ON PURCHASE STREET

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MONDAY JULY 21ST 2025

MILFORD — On Sunday, July 20, 2025, at approximately 2:43 a.m., the Milford Public Safety Communications Center received an automated crash detection alert from an iPhone, reporting a collision near 34 Purchase Street. Dispatchers immediately deployed emergency personnel to the location and attempted to contact the phone number associated with the alert. Multiple calls were met with no verbal response, only background noise.

Officers arrived on scene at 2:44 a.m. and observed a large group gathered around a white Ford van that had collided with a utility pole. A male on scene, later identified as Luis Orlando Pillacela Morocho, admitted to being the driver and stated he had crashed into the pole.

After conducting a series of field sobriety tests, officers placed Pillacela Morocho under arrest on suspicion of operating under the influence of alcohol. A breath test administered during booking confirmed his blood alcohol concentration was above the Massachusetts legal limit of 0.08%.
