The Select Board has scheduled a Special Town Meeting to be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 7:00 PM in Upper Town Hall.

There will be a single article on the warrant to address, which will be to consider whether the Town should take by eminent domain property at 6 Park Terrace, with fair market value compensation to the owners.

The subject property is to the rear of the police station. It is sandwiched between properties owned by the Town and utilized by the police department. It is a two-family dwelling built in 1930, currently listed for sale since June 2025 and unoccupied. The Select Board feels that due to its location, the property will be extremely valuable to the Town. It will allow for potential expansion of the police station to include parking and other facilities. Presently, there is not sufficient town owned area to park the department’s vehicles.

The Board has contacted the owners relative to a purchase of the property without success.

Due to the property being listed for sale, the Board feels there is urgency to schedule a Special Town Meeting, rather than wait for the May Annual Town Meeting.
